Dr. Archana Majumdar is a distinguished gynaecologist and healthcare professional. Apart she has coursed on HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION from AIIMS New Delhi & DISASTER MANAGEMENT from AIIH & PH, offered by WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION. She is passionate advocate for women’s rights, safety, and empowerment.
Born into a refugee family that fled East Pakistan during the 1963 Noakhali riots, her early struggles fueled her determination to bring transformative change to society. Rising from these humble beginnings, Dr. Majumdar has become a trailblazer in healthcare, social activism, and women’s welfare.
Professional Journey:
A Central Health Service (CHS) cadre of the 1985 UPSC batch, Dr. Majumdar retired as Senior Chief Medical Officer (HAG) in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, a role equivalent to Ex Officio Additional Secretary. Her extensive career includes pivotal roles in the Ministries of Labour and Urban Development, where she led initiatives to improve healthcare access for underserved populations.
Currently, she serves as an Independent Director at MOIL Limited under the Ministry of Steel, where she drives community-centered initiatives. Dr. Majumdar is also the Vice President of Bharat Scouts & Guides, West Bengal, and the honorary Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Medical Journal. She was conditioned for one year stay at Antarctica for establishment of Medical Set Up in 2012 by NCAOR.
She was Chairperson of Internal Committee on sexual Harassment at work place from 2014 to 2021.

- Workplace Safety: As Chairperson of the "Internal Committee on Sexual Harassment at Workplace" for the Eastern Region, she worked tirelessly to create safe environments for women professionals.
- Awareness Programs: She has led campaigns to educate women about their rights, the importance of reporting harassment, and the legal frameworks available to them.
- Community Outreach: Through her free medical camps, Dr. Majumdar addressed pressing issues like reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, and maternal care, empowering women with knowledge and access to essential healthcare.
- Breaking Social Stigma: She actively worked to dismantle taboos surrounding menstruation and women’s health, distributing millions of Suvidha sanitary napkins and providing hygiene education in rural and flood-affected areas.
Leadership in Healthcare & Disaster Relief
- Healthcare Access: Organized over 560 free medical camps, benefitting more than 250,000 individuals with services like diagnostics, free medications, eye surgeries and free eye glasses to poor old people at remote villages places.
- COVID Warrior: Provided doorstep medical care during the pandemic, ensuring critical treatments for those in need.
- Disaster Relief: Played an instrumental role in relief efforts during natural disasters like the Amphan and Yash floods, distributing food, medical supplies, and clothing to affected communities.
Professional Contributions
- Dr. Majumdar has published over 60 scientific papers in national indexed journals and authored the book “Saranarthir Rakhya Kabach: CAA,” launched at the Kolkata International Book Fair in 2020.
