Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, was Chief Guest at Prize Distribution Function of All Delhi Inter College Debate Competition on "The Youth of India is not Being Trained to Promote the Nation to the Top of its Glory as Per the Goals Set in the Constitution" at New Delhi. The programme was organised by University School of Law and Legal Studies, IP University, Delhi on 27.1.2014.

Member, Dr. Charu WaliKhanna addressing the youth said that Constitution is a living document and supreme law of the land. It sets out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens and establishes the structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions. But the question arises is whether the Youth of India Being Trained in terms of the Goals Set in the Constitution?

Member, asked the students if they knew how issues like social inequality, economic inequality, gender inequality and other inequalities fit with democracy? More importantly, how does one strike the correct balance between universal understandings of a concept like equality and the particular application of the concept?

She further said that there is a need to train the youth so that young people develop leadership skills, participate in policy forming and the decision making mechanism. Having an awareness about national issues and the need to encourage their participation in local governance. Most importantly there is a need to enhance women's leadership skills for participation and ensure women's issues are clearly defined and reflected as enshrined in the Constitution of India.

Member added that 60% of Indians are below the age of 30 years (approx 73 crore). The issue of national integration, gender, inclusive growth; in addition to employment opportunity; social security, economic growth are the pressing issues of today are issues primarily related to youth. If provided the right direction through training it would be ensured that they do not get into criminal acts and come in conflict with the law.

She expressed her firm belief in the ability of the youth to change today's world for tomorrow's brighter future and added that in essence, it is up to the youth of today to reclaim the country's glory in terms of the goals of the Constitution for the promise of our future generations.
