Smt. Mamta Sharma, Hon’ble Chairperson, NCW was Chief Guest at the inauguration of Seminar on ‘Burning Issues related to the Women and Girls’. The programme was organized by Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti, New Delhi, in collaboration with News Chakar, a weekly Hindi newspaper on 14.09.2013 at India International Centre, New Delhi.
Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Gyan Sudha Misra, Judge, Supreme Court, was Chief Guest at the Valedictory Session. She distributed certificates among girls who participated in the competition held on ‘Prevention of HIV/AIDS’ and ‘Prevention of insecurity of Women & Girls in the Society’ and expressed her pleasure on interacting with the youth of the nation especially girls. She said that normally the language used in the Supreme Court is English but it was her pleasure to address the students in Hindi on this occasion, since ‘Hindi Diwas’ was also being celebrated.
Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW and Guest of Honour addressed the participants comprising mainly young girls and young women undergoing teachers training. She said that the suggestions and views expressed by the young girls on how to curb violence against women are very pertinent and important since they emanate from their real life experiences and problems faced by them in day-to-day activities.
She said that every case of rape and sexual assault needs to get priority and similar treatment. Simultaneously there is need for commitment of funds to train police in modern methods on investigation and have forensic laboratories with capacity to analyse samples.
Shri Suresh Sharma, former IG Police, Punjab, Shri Sanjay Sharma, Project Director and Metropolitan Magistrate, Delhi State Legal Services Authority, and Director, SCERT were among other dignitaries. The representative from Delhi State Election Commission proudly said that women electorate list of Delhi for the first time has crossed 800 women per thousand men with the highest being 842 women in the West District of Delhi.
