Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW was Chief Guest at Legal Awareness Programme organised by Mercy Welfare Society, Pratap Vihar, Ghaziabad, (UP) in collaboration with NCW on 08.04.2012. 

Member, NCW interacted with people regarding Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Besides over 200 women participants, the special guests and expert speakers included Smt. Shubha Raj Mishra, President, Bharat Sewa Society, Co-ordinator, NGO Cell, U.P. Mahilla Congress; Dr. Pravin Ranjan Singh, CEO, City-II, Sihani Kotwali; Sh. Surender Prakash Goyal, Ex.MP. Lawyers who spoke on the rights of women under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 included Sh. R.N.P. Sinha, Sh. Charanjeet Singh and Sh. R.M. Sharma. 

Member, NCW expressed concern at the fact that violence against women is increasing day by day, especially in the State of U.P. And due to lack of awareness of their rights, women are tolerating violence. She said that any women who is subjected to violence in any form mental or physical should lodge complaint in the local Police Station. If the Police do not take any action she can come to National Women Commission who will intervene on her behalf. 

Smt. Prem Shila Tripathi, Organiser said that women should resist violence and speak out. General Secretary Sh. Pramod Kumar Tripathi, of the Society said that women should be aware about their rights so that they can be protected against violence.
