Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW, attends Seminar on Human Rights and Awareness of Women’s Rights on 12.2.2012 at Palwal Haryana

Member NCW, Dr Charu WaliKhanna attended a Seminar on Human Rights and Awareness of Women Rights on 12.2.2012 at Palwal organized by Bhartiya Human Rights Association, at Palwal, Haryana. 

Delivering the key note address, Member NCW said that violence against women is on the increase and its forms are changing. Instead of using science and technology for investigation and diagnosis of ailments; prevailing are malpractices of sex determination and sex selective elimination. She warned that NCW is monitoring the activites alongwith the Ministry of Health and the license will be cancelled of any medical practitioner found indulging in malpractices. 

The students of Gulab Senior Secondary Public School, Aurangabad, District Palwal sang a welcome song and performed a skit, the theme being female foeticide. The narrator (girl student) recreated what the female foetus in the womb feels when she overhears her parents saying that the third child should definitely be a boy and decide to go for an ultra sound for sex detection. The performance delivery was brilliant and her rendition of the verses was extraordinarily moving. Not only were the audience in tears but the actors themselves got so involved in their performance that they were crying uncontrollably (see pix), which reflects the inner feelings of the girls and how effected they are by gender discrimination. In order to show their appreciation and encourage the girls, the audience contributed and gave cash to the girls. The Member NCW also touched by the performance contributed and motivated the girls. 

The girls have also performed this skit before the Governor of Punjab Shri J. Pahadia who also appreciated their performance. 

Member NCW also met with Palwal City Magistrate Sh. Anil Dhawan and discussed the declining sex ratio in Haryana. Other dignitaries present on the occasion included, DSP Shri Rathi,, Office bearers of the NGO - Dr. Mahender Sharma, Sh. A.K. Dwivedi, Shri Praveen Ahuja, Sh. Nivras Ahmed, Sh. Prem Singh Ambawata, Sh. Nathi Singh, Shri Vinod Yadav.
