National Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognizance of a press report which appeared in Navbharat Times (Delhi Edition) with the caption "TRAINING SCHOOL ME LADY CONSTABLEON KA YAUN SHOSHAN 11 PREGNANT HUI" dated 27 April, 2011. Reportedly, women trainees allegedly sexually exploited by the Chief Training Inspector in Kolhapur Police Training Academy, Maharashtra. It was also been reported that mostly unmarried trainees get pregnant in the academy. NCW is deeply anguished on this report. Ms. Yasmeen Abrar, Chairperson issued letters to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister of Maharashtra to look into the matter and apprise the Commission about the actual facts and action taken by the concern authorities at the earliest.
