NCW organised Training and Sensitisation Programme for Police in case of Violence Against Women on 18.03.2013. The programme held at Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban (Karnal) was organised with technical assistance from Human Resource Advancement Welfare Society (HRAWS)

The GUIDELINES for Service Providers in case of Violence Against Women especially Rape/Sexual Assault for Police, Medical Professionals, Prosecution, Courts, Social Workers & Counselors and Media etc. developed by NCW were released by Shri Jitender Malik, Member of Parliament, Sonepat, Haryana.

At the inaugural session a skit was shown reflecting the public perception of police apathy and need for change. This was followed by an inspirational song so that the participating police persons feel motivated to introspect and change their attitude towards women.

This was followed by the Technical Session chaired by Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member NCW who said that when a crime is committed the first line of defence is the police who must give the ‘healing touch’, hence it was important to sensitise them on gender issues.

NCW staff made power point presentation on the GUIDELINES to sensitise the police personnel in a participative interaction.

Dignitaries on the dias included Shri Jaiveer Kharkhoda, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Govt. of Haryana; Shri Hariram Sood, Member, National Commission for Safai Karmchari, Govt. of India and Sardar Kashmiri Singh Wirk.

In his address Shri Sheel Madhur, IPS, Director, Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban said that every course being conducted at the Academy has a gender element and daily gender sensitisation courses are being conducted. Ms. Suman Manjari IPS, IG said that despite it not being March 8, yet an atmosphere of women’s day prevailed. She spoke on the problems faced by the police and shortage of shelter homes and other infrastructure.
