Ms. Hemlata Kheria, Member, NCW was Chief Guest at Shakti Sadbhavna Sammelan at Gandhi Ashram, Kingsway Camp, Delhi on 23rd September, 2013.

Among other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Shri Naresh Yadav, Ex. M.P, Shri Mangat Ram Singhal, MLA and Ex. Minister of Delhi, Shri Raju Bhai Parmar, Member, National Commission for SC/ST, Ms. Prema Carriappa, Ex. MP and Chairperson, Central Social Welfare Board, Shri Sankar Kumar Sanyal, President, Harijan Sewak Sangh, Dr. Sudarshan Pathak, President, Delhi Social Welfare Board.

The programme was organised by Harijan Sevak Sangh (Founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1932) supported by Central Social Welfare Board.

On this occasion Ms. Hemlata Kheria said that gender equality is, first and foremost, a human right. Women are entitled to live in dignity and in freedom from want and from fear. Empowering women is also an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty. Empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities and to improve prospects for the next generation. She also emphasized that as long as violence against women continues, we cannot claim to be making real progress towards equality, development and peace, let us end violence against women as a goal of our mission.
