Ms Hemlata Kheria, Member, NCW visited Niladriparad and Barbara Panchayat in Banpur Block, Odisha on 21.04.2013

On 21.04.2013 Ms Hemlata Kheria, Member NCW accompanied by OYSS Women founder Ms Manasi Pradhan visited some of the remote Tribal and Dalit villages of Khurdha district and she went to “Tundrapur” viilage in Badakul Panchayat of Balugaon block. The village is mostly inhabitated by Dalit fisher women, who are the bread-earner of their family, depended on Chilika for livelihood. Subsequently, she visited one of the remotest tribal villages of “Niladriparad” and “Barabara” panchayat in Banpur block. Nestled amidst dense forest, the two panchayats are still far from development. 

The tribal women voiced their problems and difficulties and also lamented the attitude of the local administration. Many complained of non receipt of Govt. benefits like Widow Pension, Old Age Pension and other schemes. 

It was also reported that men generally drink and in their inebriated state maltreat and beat the womenfolk. 

The local administrative present were directed to immediately dispose of the schemes to the beneficiaries. The women were also assured that NCW will do everything to help them get empowered.
