Ms. Hemlata Kheria Member, NCW visited Jakeda Village, District Nayagarh, Nuagaon Block, Odisha on 3rd September, 2013

Ms. Hemlata Kheria Member, NCW accompanied with Ms. Manasi Pradhan, Social activist visited Jakeda Village, District Nayagarh, Nuagaon Block, Odisha on 3rd September, 2013. She met with Sarpanch, CDPO, DSW, Block’s Chairman and PDDRDA of the District.

The area is primarily inhabited by adivsis who are not only poor but also uneducated and malnourished. The village reflects their poverty and deprivation. The community of this village is totally unaware about their entitlements under different state and Central Schemes. Local administration, Sarpanch, Officials does not provide any information to empower people (women) about rural development, tribal development and other empowering programmes. It also appears that Central Government Scheme Funds have not been utilized effectively like BPL/Indira Awas/Widow Pension/Pension Schemes for women.

There is no set up of PHC to provide basic health care facilities nor any visits of doctors or medical specialists. Only single untrained ASHA worker was present. Village people complained that the Janani Suraksha Express is not plying in the night time. This vehicle is meant for pregnant women especially during night hours, and this is very inconvenience to the pregnant women for delivery in the hospital. There is no Anganwari Centre. The Sewa Ashram School’s small area is used as Anganwari Centre.

There are no proper sanitation facilities available in the village with no toilet facilities due to which women and children are prone to many type of heinous incidents as well as lack of sanitation is a serious health risk to the people.
