Member Mrs. Shamina Sharfiq attended International Conference
Asia-Pacific Gender Studies Conference ( Gender Equity : Issue of Theory, Practice and Policy in the Asia - Pacific Region) organised by UGC- Academic Staff College, Kumaun University, Nanital on 21st -22nd March, 2013 at Conference Hall, The Manu Maharani Hotel and Conference Hall, The UGC-Academic Staff College, The Hermitage, Kumaun University, Nainital, Uttarakhand. This Conference was sponsored by National Commission for Women. 

The Conference was attended by Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar, Vice Chancellor, Kumaun University, Nanital; Prof. Chandrakala Padia, Dean School of Social Science, B.H.U., Varanasi; Prof. Harumi Hosono, Director, Centre for Gender , School of Information and Communication, Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan; Dr. Chompoonuch Chalasorn Permpoonwiwat, Director Ph.D. Programme, School of Economic and Public Policy, Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok, Thailand; besides other dignitaries. 

During her address Mrs. Shamina Shafiq, Member NCW spoke about the need of socially relevant research and scholars to devote time and effort in bringing about social change. She stressed on that academic scholar and teacher in higher education should take on a bit more responsibility to promote equity in society, it would bring about a sea change in the development scenario.
