Jharkhand State Level Consultation on the Implementation of PCPNDT Act at Ranchi

On 8th December 2011, Member NCW Dr Charu WaliKhanna took part in the Inaugural Session of ‘Jharkhand State Level Consultation on the Implementation of PCPNDT Act’ at Ranchi and gave her invaluable insights during the discussions. The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Bimla Pradhan, Minister Women & Child Development, in the presence of Smt Hemlata Mohan, Chairperson State Commission for Women, Law Secretary, Director NHRM and World Vision. 

The consultation was organized by World Vision India (WVI) – a humanitarian charitable international organization, working to create change in the lives of children living in poverty, As part of their larger awareness generation campaign on the ‘dignity of the girl child’. The basis of this consultation is a discussion, on the Solution Exchange for Gender Community- a knowledge management initiative of the United Nations agencies in India, which comprises of over 4000 members – development practitioners spread across the country, working on gender related issues. 

The idea behind the state consultative meeting was to bring together and share the discussion document with persons involved with the implementation process of the PCPNDT Act in Jharkhand. The objectives are as follows: 
 

  • Commenting on the Discussion Summary, to come up with state specific guideline to implement the PCPNDT Act. 
  • In addition, to come up with the follow up action that can help raise awareness regarding the act in the state. 
  • The state level consultation is a part of a series of similar consultation taking place in other parts of the country. One of which was hosted by World Vision India at Odisha.
