Dr.Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW was distinguished speaker at seminar “Against Female Feticide and Protection of Girl Child” on 19th October, 2012 at Dy. Speaker Hall, Constitution Club of India, Rafi Marg, New Delhi organized by Deep Welfare Organisation and Stri Shakti, New Delhi.

The main objective of the seminar was to highlight the overall problems in harmonious growth of the girl child, and the role society can play towards achievement of the following goals:-

1. To improve the status of the girl child by addressing the declining child sex ratio in India;
2. To ensure better health and nutrition for the girl child;
3. To ensure the right to education for the girl child;
4. To strengthen and address the issue of the Sex Selection and discrimination with Girl child and ensure the effective Implementation of PC-PNDT Act, 1994;
5. To explore other methodologies for Protection of Girl Child by Civil Society and Government and Media

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member said that the girl child is highly susceptible to abuse, violence and exploitation both inside and outside her home. Crimes against girls and women have been increasing over the years but very few cases get reported. The time has come for young women to break their silence and fight injustice.

Girls from the training centre run by the NGO showing great enthusiasm and spirit performed a play depicting discrimination against the girl child. Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member said she was happy to see so many young girls attend the programme and hoped that they understood the importance of the subject being discussed since they are the future leaders of the Nation.
