Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW, paid courtesy call to Hon’ble Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Ram Naresh Yadav on 20.06.2013 and discussed gender issues. 

The Hon’ble governor showing great sensitivity appreciated the role of NCW in safeguarding the rights of women and monitoring implementation of laws made to protect the rights of women so as to enable them to achieve equality in all spheres of life and equal participation in the development of the nation. 

He said that NCW should take up and deal with cases relating to violence against women more strictly. He emphasized the need to create awareness among society at a large scale and sensitize police so that better coordinated mechanism is established between the Commission and the Police. 

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna also stressed that there is a need to pay special attention towards tribal women since they belong to the most exploited and neglected section of the society. The other Members of the Inquiry Committee also participated in the interaction. 

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Delhi, was in Madhya Pradesh as Chairperson Inquiry Committee to inquire into the incident reported in the media titled “Aadivasi Mahila Ko Mutra Pilakar Ki Nirman Pitai” at Village Nadiya, Dist. Hoshangabad, MP.
