Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW, was Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of Self Defence Training Programme on 10th September, 2013 organized by Task Force for Women & Child Development in conjunction with PHD Family Welfare Foundation at Vinodpur

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW, was Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of Self Defence Training Programme on 10th September, 2013 organized by Task Force for Women & Child Development in conjunction with PHD Family Welfare Foundation at Vinodpuri, Delhi. 

The self defece training has been provided by special self defence trainers from Delhi Police for a period of 14 days to girls living in the slum area of Vinod Puri. During the closing ceremony the participants demonstrated their skills on how to defend themselves on being attached by molesters , eve-teasers etc. Certificate of Participation was distribution to 85 girls and women who had undergone the course. The women of the area are being imparted livelihood skills by the PHD Chamber and on the same day distributed certificates in beautician course and tailoring course. 

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, on the occasion addressing the participants said self defence training will build confidence among the girls who will now not be scared to move around in public places. She said that it is often seen that the body language of a woman makes her vulnerable to assault, with the aggressor taking advantage of her fear. If the girl is empowered and trained in self defence, then her body language will reflect confidence and will prove to be a deterrent for the aggressor. 

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna also encouraged the participants to speak out and report incidents of violence and harassment. 

Ms. Suman Nalwa, IPS, DCP, Special Police Unit for Women and Children, Delhi Police Chief Guest on the occasion. The organizers requested Delhi Police to organize another refresher course so that the girls could refresh the skills acquired and share their experience on how the training helped them to deal with violence. Ms. Suman Nalwa, DCP, agreed to the suggestions and said that police is always ready for the security of the girls and if they come across any case of apathy or insensitivity from police they must complain and immediate action will be taken.
