Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, was Chief Guest at the Workshop on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment” organised by Central Bank of India, Mumbai on 28 June 2013. 

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna complimented the Central Bank of India for effectively organizing this workshop for the second time. The Member made a presentation on the prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace. She explained and shared details of the Supreme Court guidelines and the salient features of the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 i.e. definition, provision and what is considered a workplace. 

The participants about 100 comprised member of the Internal Complaints Committee(ICC). During the interactive session it emerged that most of the Members of ICC were unaware of the procedure to be followed while dealing with the complaints and whether opposite party is required to be summoned etc. Member, NCW informed participants of details of how the inquiry is to be proceeded upon. She said the Act is quite clear that the Inquiry Committee shall be completed within a period of 90 days. During the pendency of an inquiry the aggrieved woman has the right to seek her transfer or transfer of the respondent. She may also be granted leave for a period of 3 months or any other relief which is required. It is mandatory for the ICC to provide a report to the employer within 10 days from the completion of the inquiry and such report be made available to the concerned parties. Further, it is mandatory for the employer to act upon the recommendation within 30 days of receipt of the inquiry report.
