Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member NCW Participates in Inter-Commission Dialogue on 22nd February, 2012

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW participated in an Inter-Commission Dialogue on 22nd February, 2012 organized by the Centre for Child and the Law (CCL), National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. 

In order to facilitate a discussion on the issues concerning child rights, CCL NLSIU, in partnership with UNICEF-India Country Office organized the Inter-Commission Dialogue with the belief that an Inter-Commission Dialogue between the National Commission for Women, National Human Rights Commission, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, and the National Commission for Minorities will serve as a platform to share experiences, good practice, challenges faced, and negotiations that may have been initiated with the Government at national or state level with specific reference to child rights. The proceeding were designed to facilitate deliberations which could result in recommendations for a protocol for use by human rights institutions that would enable them to respond effectively to matter pertaining to child rights and other issues of common concern. 

The Inaugural session was Chaired by Justice N. Santosh Hegde, former Judge Supreme Court and former Lokayukta of Karnataka State. Addressing the participants Member, NCW specifically stated that there was no conflict of interest between other Commissions and NCW. Infact when a matter did not fall within its mandate, NCW referred it to the appropriate Commission to deal with the issue. She also highlighted the fact that NCW as part of good practices is developing working models for inter-Commission Dialogue/Inquiry between NHRC, NCPCR and NCW.
