Dr. Charu WaliKhanna Member, NCW Chief Guest at Valedictory Session of International Conference on Gender Relations in Developing Societies : A 21st Century Perspective at New Delhi

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna Member, NCW was Chief Guest at Valedictory Session of International Conference on Gender Relations in Developing Societies : A 21st Century Perspective at New Delhi held on 31.10.2012. The International Conference was organised by Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi at New Delhi.

In the International Conference discussed were the topics of Gender and Society in Developing countries of Asia and Africa, Gender and violence and gender mainstreaming.

At Inaugural session on 30th October, 2012, the Chief Guest was Hon’ble Justice Leila Seth, Former Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh, Welcome Address was given by Dr. Sushil Sondhi, Principal, Maharaja Agrasen College, University of Delhi; Prof. Aparna Basu, Former Professor History, University of Delhi & Patron, All India Women’s Conference was Guest of Honour. Keynote address was given by Prof. Bina Agarwal, Professor at University of Manchester, UK & Former Director, IEG, University of Delhi. Delhi.

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW said that she was happy to know that this conference aimed at highlighting the gender dynamics of global issues in developing societies; and hoped the discussions explored the ways of responding to their detrimental effects on lives of women. She said the objective of the conference being to debate the relative effectiveness of the strategies adopted by various institutions to eliminate violence against women, was very relevant in today's world. And assumed that networking and mass mobilization among people sensitive to this cause important for achieving gender equality, had been achieved during the conference. Dr Charu WaliKhanna stressed that collective thinking, commitment to gender issues and strategizing together is need of the hour and assured the participants that NCW would taken action on the points discussed when the report is submitted by the organisers.
