Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW Chief Guest at Swami Vivekanand Centenary Celebration at Village Halalpur, Block-Chandrauli, District- Baghpat, U.P. on 27.02.2013

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW was Chief Guest at Swami Vivekanand Centenary Celebrations held at Village Halalpur, Block-Chandrauli, District- Baghpat, U.P. on 27.02.2013. 

Addressing a gathering of over 2000 persons out of which more than half were female, she said that in Indian religion a women is revered as a Goddess, but in ground reality she is victim of gender based violence; she is abused, harassed, tortured, and beaten. 

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna told to the men that we (women) do not want to be treated as Goddesses, we only want to live in peace with dignity. Men should be sensitive to needs of women and give them respect and dignity. 
The programme was chaired by Dr. Priya Ranjan Trivedi, Chancellor, The Global Open University, Nagaland and many other dignitaries graced the dias among those facilitated included Shri K.K. Goel, Director, IRDP, Shri Rajeev Jolly Khosla, Secretary General, National Panthers Party, Delhi Pradesh and other religious leaders who extolled the virtues of women. On the request of one of the dignitaries, all the men were asked to take pledge “from now I will respect and honour women – with all purity”.
