Dr. Charu WaliKhanna Member, NCW Chief Guest at “Gender Sensitisation & Code of Conduct”Program of THDCIL, Rishikesh

Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member NCW was Chief Guest at the Programme on “Gender Sanitations & Code of Conduct at Work Place” for employees of THDCIL at Corporate HRD Centre, Rishikesh (UK).

The two days programme held on 26-27 December, 2012 was organized by THDCIL, a central Public Sector Undertaking under Ministry of Power, having approximately 2300 employees, (out of which 123 are women employees. The Programme was attended by both Male and Female participants (E1-E6 Grade) from Tehri, Koteshwar, Lucknow, Kausambhi, Rishikesh, and comprised Executive, Engineers, Chartered Accountants among others. In the technical sessions resource persons advocates Ms. Jyotika Kalra, Ms. Aruna Tiku and Dr. Padmini Singh discussed gender related issues, Constitutional & Legal Provisions for Gender Equality, the topics discussed includedwomen’s Right to Property, Maintenance, Matrimonial Law, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, Dowry Laws, Penal Laws, Pregnancy, Maternity benefit laws & other legal provisions concerning women especially working women with special emphasis on prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace. The participants were also provided with the written materials giving introduction of the laws concerning women and publications of National Commission for Women.

The workshop was well received and highly appreciated by the participants. Feedback of the participants-

  • Such workshops should be organized at all the projects of Corporation and for all level of employees i.e. the junior grade employees & also the senior management level employees of THDC.
  • Legal awareness and gender sensitisation should also be taken as a Project in CSR of THDC.
  • As per the suggestion, training on Gender Sensitisation and Prevention of Sexual harassment at Workplace can become a part of the induction training of freshers. It was suggested that there should be an -house training for the participants so that they can train other employees.
  • The details of the complaint committee SHOULD be put on the website and there should be a mechanism whereby the complaint may be lodged by email to the committee.
  • The committee should also conduct the anonymous survey periodically and get feedback from the women employees.
  • Women participants demanded that there should be a provision of Crèche and child care leave in the organization
  • Workshop concluded with the idea that there should be zero tolerance to harassment at the workplace.
