Dr. Charu Walikhanna, Member, Chief Guest At ‘Crime Against Women’ Programme, New Delhi On 11.05.2013

Dr. Charu Walikhanna, Member, was Chief Guest at ‘Crime Against Women: Precautions & Actions’ programme organised by GK-II Welfare Association, New Delhi on 11.05.2013. 

The Member made a presentation on the role of NCW and stressed that the Commission is neither a police station nor a court but acts where there is a deprivation of right of women. 

She said that women are subject to violence due to their subordinate status in society. She presented ‘NCW Wallet book’ and distributed publication on rights of women developed by NCW. 

The other panellists included Shri Ajay Chaudhry, IPS, Addl. CP South-East, who made a presentation on the role of police, Ms. Shazia, Social Activist spoke on the role of media, Ms. Nandita Sharma, Advocate, explained laws for protection of women, and Dr. Veena Kapoor, Consultant Psychiatrist who spoke on the psychology of adolescents and their needs & challenges when hormonal changes take place. 

The house was open on discussion and participants interacted with the panel. 

Suggestion was made that there should be representation of NCW, housewives and NGOs in the jury responsible for certification of films before they are released and amendment in the Cinematograph Act be made accordingly. 

The welcome address was given by Shri Ashok Bagga, President and the vote of thanks given by Sh. Raj K Gupta, General Secretary of the Association. Master of Ceremony was Sh. Chetan Sharma, Journalist.
