Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment at Workplace “Code of Conduct” - poster released by Chairperson, NCW

A “Code of Conduct'' developed by NCW in collaboration with its partners is another step forward in the history of women’s movement after Supreme Court guidelines in Vishaka & Others versus State of Rajasthan & Others. 

On 29th November, 2011 at SCOPE Complex, New Delhi Ms. Mamta Sharma, Chairperson, NCW released a poster “Code of Conduct” asking women to adopt Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment at Work Place. The Workshop was organized by the SCOPE Complex in collaboration with NTPC. 

The poster is NCW’s affirmation on Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment at Work Place and highlight relevant information and “dos” and “don’ts” for women employees and employers to prevent Sexual Harassment at Work Place. 

The poster has been developed in collaboration with Solution Exchange for Gender Community – a knowledge management initiative of United Nations (UN) in India, facilitated by UNICEF, UN Women has given inputs to develop this poster and design assistance by Social Action Forum for Manav Adhikar (SAFMA) a NGO, in Special Consultative Status with the ECOSOC of UNITED NATIONS. 

On the occasion Dr. Charu WaliKhanna, Member, NCW made a presentation on “How to protect women from Sexual Harassment at Work Place” and discussed the proposed BILL extensively. 

Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, Chairman, SCOPE and CMD, NTPC also spoke on the occasion and said the need of the day was to have more women on Board of Directors. 

Dr. U.D. Choubey, DG, SCOPE spoke on the role of Scope which is the nodal agency of public sector employees and stated that Scope employs almost 15 lakh employees out of which over 1 lakh are female employees. 

Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharyya, GM, Projects Engg. (C&I), NTPC & Present Chairperson ICC, NTPC gave a presentation on NTPC’s Initiative on Protection of Women against Sexual Harassment at Work Place. 

Ms. Rachel Mathew, Chief Internal Audit Manager, IOC & President WIPS and former Chairperson, ICC spoke on need to protect women. 

Ms. Nisha Sharma, Dy. Manager (CC) SCOPE made a presentation on PSEs views and the participants shared their experiences of harassment and learned from each other strategies of protection.
