NCW celebrates Swachch Bharat Pakhwara between 01/03/2017 and 15/03/2017


National Commission for Women during Swachch Bharat Pakhwara between 1st March -15th March, 2017 in the office premises and took oath of pledge on 14.03.2017. The staff entrusted with cleanliness drive in and around the office building.

Two days Legal Awareness Progarmme organized by District Social Welfare Department, Madurai on 07th to 08th March, 2017 at Maduarai Institute of Social Science, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The participants were given awareness about ‘Swatch Bharat Pakhwara’ wherein staff and officers of DSWD, Madurai appraised cleanliness drive in their district.

The Commission in collaboration with TISS has developed modules for Capacity Building of elected women representatives.


The National Commission for Women in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Science "TISS", Mumbai has developed modules for Capacity Building of elected women representatives on 2nd May 2016, the Commission has under taken its first phase of three days "Proof of Concept" (POC) for the modules at Pirawa Block Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.

Members Dr.Charu WaliKhanna and Shamina Shafiq visited the shelter home Mamtalaya run by an NGO under the Short Stay Home.


Members Dr.Charu WaliKhanna and Shamina Shafiq visited the shelter home Mamtalaya run by an NGO under the Short Stay Home (SSH) scheme of Central Social Welfare Board and interacted with the girls between the age group of 15 -35 who live together in one premises. The girls had similar stories, in the sense that most of them were victims of domestic violence i.e. abuse by father, did not have a mother and violence against them by their father was mainly due to alcohol or provocation by step mother.

Members Dr. Charu WaliKhanna and Shamina Shafiq toured Sikkim to study best practices in Prevention of Trafficking. They were Chief Guests at programme on 12.06.2014 organized by SJE&WD East Sikkim.


The Commission in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission organized a meeting on “Status of customary laws – inheritance, marriage / divorce and customary system of dispensing justice in crime against women and its implication on status of women.
